Hubble Space Telescope: Seventeen Years and the Five Billion Dollars Cost

The Hubble space telescope gets its name from Edwin Hubble, and this telescope is the culmination of extensive efforts made by NASA to create a suitable means with which to look into space. It had been sent into orbit in the year 1990 and there were great expectations from it as it was believed that it would enable astronomers to look into deep space.

The technology used to create the Hubble space telescope was the best of the time and because of this , so many expectations arose regarding being able to peek into the heavens to learn more about the mysteries of the universe.

Hubble Space Telescope and Black Holes

Actually, the Hubble space telescope allowed astronomers to espy black holes and to get a peek into the origins of the universe. There no doubts the fact that the Hubble space telescope has more than lived up to the expectations that astronomers had from it and it has actually sent back exhaustive amounts of images that have been truly awe inspiring. With the help of this excellent telescope man has been able to unravel mysteries and also made many new and exciting discoveries.

The Hubble space telescope has actually helped man to find undeniable proof regarding dark matter as well as energy that we otherwise would not have been able to fathom. The importance of this excellent space telescope lies in the fact that the study of space has been furthered and it has allowed astronomers to take another and important step in taking a look at how the universe was created.

The Hubble space telescope also has been sending pictures that are far superior to average photographs as the pictures it sent are twenty times larger than any picture that you can get out of your digital camera and even more importantly, the Hubble space telescope pictures have crystal clear clarity and are filled with vivid colors.

The Making of Hubble Space Telescope

The construction of the Hubble space telescope began in 1977 and it took another eight years (1985) before it was ready to be used. Another five years on, in 2005 (April 25) the Hubble space telescope was sent into orbit and though the first pictures lacked in quality, subsequent changes helped to rectify these errors.

In any case the pictures received over seventeen years have been providing astronomers with outstanding images of the universe and the five billion dollars spent on this instrument have been repaid adequately.

With so much more to find out in the universe and despite the end of the road for the Hubble space telescope, this instrument has helped to further man’s knowledge and has whetted the appetite of astronomers into finding more ways of many remaining unsolved mysteries.

Reflecting and Refracting Telescopes to Explore the Night Sky

Reflecting and refracting telescopes will enable you to explore the many wonders that fill the night sky. Instead of seeing small stars in the night sky you will be able to view planets, comets and so many other things simply by looking into a reflecting and refracting telescope. Be prepared to be amazed each time you look through your telescope, and find yourself asking “how does a refracting telescope work.”

Binoculars for New Astronomers

If you are new to astronomy you can start off simple with a good pair of binoculars. Once you are certain that astronomy is a hobby that you want to continue enjoying then you can invest in a reflecting and refracting telescope.

The cost of a reflecting and refracting telescope varies greatly depending on their quality and features. So it is important to clearly understand what you want to get out of telescope ownership so that you do not waste your money. If you’d like to see the red spot on Jupiter in great deal you shouldn’t invest in a reflecting and refracting telescope designed for beginner astronomers.

Reflecting and Refracting Telescopes Various Accessories

Sometimes the accessories for the reflecting and refracting telescope will cost you more than the telescope itself. For example, the eyepieces for reflecting and refracting telescopes.

Eyepieces for Reflecting and Refracting Telescopes

They have many variations in size and quality and can end up costing more than the telescope itself. Eyepieces for reflecting and refracting telescopes often come in two main sizes.

To view a larger section of the sky you will want to use a two inch eyepiece although a one and a quarter inch eyepiece is considered standard. If you are considering the larger eyepiece be prepared to pay the larger price tag that will come with it.

A great way to get familiar with all the different eyepieces that are available is to buy a sample collection that offers some of the more popular eyepieces that can be used with a reflecting or refracting telescope. These sample collections tend to be less expensive than buying several eyepieces individually. Once you have a feel for which eyepiece you prefer you can upgrade to higher quality eyepieces one at a time.

Cameras for Reflecting and Refracting Telescopes

There are also numerous cameras that can be attached to reflecting and refracting telescopes that allow astronomers to photograph the various things they see in the night sky. Depending on the quality and features of the camera the price can range greatly.  Just like the eyepieces, the cameras also vary, from quality as well as price. There are many cameras available at stores, for less than a hundred dollars until thousand dollars. At last, which telescope and accessories you’ll buy; it all depends on your needs and your judgment.

Hubble Telescope to View Objects in the Sky

What is a telescope? Telescopes are instruments people use to view objects located at a considerable distance. Besides that, telescope can also be used to view the skies above us.

The Hubble telescope is a name that is well known throughout the world and the reason for its fame is that it, until very recently, has been the main telescope that orbited the earth and sent back interesting images of the heavens above us.

The major feature of Hubble telescope was the ability to send back to Earth images that were clear and not blurred. That is because of the ability that this Hubble telescope has carved an important place for it in the world of astronomy.

Hubble Telescope to Explain the Mysteries for Astronomers

Astronomers get many answers and explanation of the space mysteries which have existed from the very beginning of time by using the Hubble telescope. Astronomers would be at a loss trying to explain all that is taking place as well as the origins of various stars in the universe if it was not for this amazing instrument and the Hubble telescope in fact has also played an important role in explaining the solar system.

Hubble Telescope images

Just like any other inventions, in the beginning the images provided by the Hubble telescope were not all that clear; though with improvements in modern technology this issue has been sorted out. In fact, the Hubble telescope has helped astronomers to judge and calculate the distances between different stars with more accuracy. People use this telescope claimed that they even can view the furthest galaxies, thanks to this excellent telescope.

Pictures that are sent by the Hubble telescope are first of all stored in an archive and then transmitted to earth. This process assures cleaner images and it also ensures that people back on earth are able to view worlds that exist far away without much distortion or blurring of the pictures.

Hubble Telescope Users

Who can user Hubble telescope? A beginner? An expert? Actually astronomers in all level can use the Hubble telescope and this enables you to view astronomical objects whenever you have the time. Even a novice can use the Hubble telescope because there are clear guidance available that will help you get the most out of your viewing.

However, the Hubble telescope is mostly used for scientific purposes and here it has proven to be of great use in solving the mysteries of the universe.

The pictures provided have a great degree of clarity and are brighter than what any other telescope is able to provide. So, no wonder if people say that the Hubble Space Telescope has for long been the main instrument that helped astronomers study the universe.

Refracting Telescope and the Beauty of the Night Sky

Viewers can look into the night sky and see numerous astronomical wonders using a refracting telescope. A refracting telescope makes us possible to take a close up look at the moon or check out Saturn.

How does the refracting telescope work? It works because every refracting telescope has two lenses. One lens is called the objective lens and the other is an eyepiece. Using the two lenses in conjunction with each other they focus large amounts of gathered light which allows us to see things far away.

Types of Refracting Telescopes

The refracting telescope firstly invented in the Netherlands around 400 years ago.  About the same time Galileo also came up with his own design for a refracting telescope that we called a Galilean telescope. In Galileo’s refracting telescope design, he chose to use an eyepiece that was concave and a main objective lens that was convex. The first spotting of Jupiter through a telescope was with a Galilean telescope.

Several years after the original refracting telescope made its debut which was quickly followed by the introduction of the Galilean telescope, another scientist, Johannes Kepler unveiled his new telescope in 1611. This refracting telescope, known today as a Keplerian Telescope.

People believed that Keplerian Telescope is an improvement of Galilean’s telescope by using an eyepiece that was convex instead of concave. The benefit of the new design was a field of view that was much wider. Anyhow, there is also one drawback to this design because the images in the telescope were inverted.

Achromatic Refractor

Around hundred years later, after the introduction of the Keplerian Telescope, another type of refracting telescope was developed. The new type of telescope is called an Achromatic Refractor.

The main improvement of the Achromatic Refractor is the new design of the objective lens to eliminate imperfections in the image that could be seen through the telescope. In this design the objective lens is created from two pieces of glass instead of the traditional one. Special material is embedded to the lens that helps to bring colors into focus better.

Meada Telescope

You may be aware that today you can find different types of telescopes at the stores, which are readily available for purchase. There are several high quality telescope producers in the world that offer a large range of products to accommodate every level of astronomer. One of the well known telescopes’ brands is Meade which still offers achromatic refracting telescopes until today.

If you’d like to buy a telescope, you may consider Meade refracting telescope, since it is good for beginner, for the passionate astronomer or even for the whole family. You can teach your children about the night sky, they surely will like it and you can educate them at the same time. Have a nice view at the night sky…

What is a Telescope?

Before deciding to buy or to construct your own telescope, it’s recommended that you should familiar with telescope. Basically, telescope is a tool to magnify objects and make them appear to be closer than they actually are and this is achieved by bringing the image at the viewing lens’s focal distance.

Besides buying a telescope, you can also construct the telescope by yourself. There are many do-it-yourself instructions available that will show you steps to build your own telescope. The great thing is, most of the telescope constructions do not require specific skills to build one for you. What you need to do, is understands the concepts, and construct it based on in.

Internet as Source of Information

Like any other required information, you can also search information about telescope in internet. The internet has a bunch of information that you can dig; telescope introduction, telescope types, telescopes criteria, buy a telescope, and how to build your own telescope. Many people considered building a telescope as being an art form; and if you are already can build it, you can make the telescope as good as the ready-made which are sold at stores.

Types of Telescopes

Basically, there are three different types of telescope: the refractive; the reflective and the compound ones. Those telescopes are available in a number of different shapes, sizes and types and the costs too vary widely – depending on how you plan on using it.

Refractive Telescopes

Refractive telescope has a lens into which a beam of light is shot and which in turn converges to a mirror’s surface.

Reflective Telescope

Reflective Telescope has a lens into which a beam of light is spread across the entire mirror’s surface.

Compound Telescope

The compound telescope is the third major type and it in fact is a combination of the best of refractive and reflective telescopes, though there is no guarantee that this kind of telescope is the most effective.

If you are still not sure which are the best types for you, you should get professionals to advice you about which type of telescope to use.

Hubble Telescope

The Hubble telescope is a name that is easily recognizable and it did, until recently, orbit the earth to provide a clearer view of what was taking place in the outer atmosphere above the earth.

When buying a telescope for the first time it is better not to buy it from a local store because quality is not always assured. It is far better to go to a professional store where you will get better quality, warranties as well as guaranteed after-sales service. You may have to pay more, but with all the warranties and after-sales service, it is well worth the extra cost and effort.

At last, really appreciate the present advances in technology and wider interest in astronomy scientists have succeeding in creating some very high powered such instruments that helps many people all over the world.
